State Visit from the Netherlands with focus on Innovative Green Growth

The Regent Couple receives Dutch royal couple His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima in Denmark from 17 to 19th March 2015. It will be a state visit, which focuses on a theme that concerns both countries: the green innovative growth agenda. The state visit will also address the two countries' cooperation in the medical and education sectors.

H. M. King Willem-Alexander and H. M. Queen Máxima made a short official visit to Denmark in 2013 , as part of a series of introductory visits the royal couple made in Europe after the transfer in the Netherlands. The upcoming state visit aims to strengthen relations and common interests between Denmark and the Netherlands. The program opens the possibility that the two countries can exchange experiences about innovative green growth and focus on the medical and education sectors. Denmark's competencies in these areas will be presented to the official delegation and the 40 companies that form the business delegation accompanying the Dutch royal couple.

After the official reception on 17th of March in the Vilhelm Lauritz terminal the Dutch royal couple will arrive at Fredensborg Palace. H. M. The Queen and HRH The Prince Consort host a gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace in the evening.

On the second day of the state visit King Willem-Alexander and Máxima Queen, accompanied by Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, visit the island of Samsø, which is now 100 per cent. self-sufficient in renewable energy. The island has for many years worked to become a model green community by focusing on self-sufficient energy forms that are owned and operated by the islanders themselves, as well as on ecology and green sustainability in the island's society. After the official welcome by the mayor of Samsø the island's green innovative solutions will be showcased. The program is designed to go into the details of the green solutions that both countries have an interest in developing together. There will among other things be visits to the consumer owned district heating plants based on straw bales, Ballen-Brundby providing energy which meets the needs of 291 homes, 3 hotels and 3 companies on the island. The royal couple and Crown Prince Couple will also visit Samsø Efterskole, where energy and green solutions and experiences in nature are at the center of the students' focus. The island visit ends at Samsø Energy Academy with round table discussions and experience compilations from the green day followed by a lunch presenting the island's specialties and local products, illustrating the local community's self-sufficient ideology.

During the state visit King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will also meet with Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Christiansborg. In Copenhagen, the royal couple are also shown the Bispebjerg Hospital, which is currently undergoing a major change in organization and design. Here, Danish and Dutch companies demonstrate how they will contribute to the project of creating the future hospital.

At the Aalborg University's Copenhagen Campus, there will be a session on social equality between the two countries. Denmark and the Netherlands are both high in "World Happiness Index", and the university will on the occasion of the state visit put a focus on collaboration with students and exchange students from the Netherlands.

On the 18th of March, King Willem-Alexander and Máxima Queen host a return arrangement, where the cultural features will be modern dance performed by ICKamsterdam (International Choreographic Arts Centre for contemporary dance).
