The Queen's remarks about the Crown Prince's accident on video.  She makes a joke about him being almost 50 and doing this sort of thing.  But, he is doing well.

Well, judging by Mary's smile she seems to be on the same wavelength as the queen about the joke on Frederik:-)

I don't think her smile is all that bright..

This must have been quite a scare for her and the kids, actually. And Christian saw it happen.

Frederik seems to have been very lucky. This could have had a very serious outcome.

No, she is not grinning all over her face slapping her thighs, but an agreeing smile. Of course it probably was not fun for Christian to watch, but we should be careful not over dramatising it. The Queen could joke about it and no official events is expected to be cancelled. Anyway, according to EB a witness saw him trying out a backward somersault. He got some ice on it and could walk out of there himself with his PET officers driving them away.

On another note. Some interesting Copper Wedding picture we going to get:-)

Not overdramatising, no, but spinal injuries could be very serious. It's good that it wasn't that serious in this case.

How frightening for the family, so close to serious harm!

Very best wishes to Crown Prince Frederik for a full and timely recovery.

I think we had info here earlier about Prince Christian being enrolled in gymnastics training.

From my own experience I would say it's not unusual for the parents to join in at gym training - especially the dads.

This is such and understandable scenario for a father who is involved in the interests of his children. I hope the reports are not distorting it into something negative about the Crown Prince.

Another DR article

http://www.dr.dk/levnu/krop/geisling-kronprinsen-vil-med-al-sandsynlighed-ikke-faa-varige-men

DR's health correspondent Peter Qvortrup Geisling estimates that the Crown Prince's injury in all likelihood will not cause permanent damage.

(Peter Qvortrup Geisling is the doctor who traveled with the Crown Prince on one of the Greenlandic sled expeditions).

Similar article about Peter Qvortrup Geisling's comments from EB

http://ekstrabladet.dk/flash/kongelige/danskekongelige/tv-laege-om-kronprinsens-ulykke-ikke-noedvendigvis-smertefuld/6349574

Making a light joke was quite a tactical move by the Queen. It communicated that the injury was not catastrophic, much more effectively than just an official statement could do.

BB video of the announcement to the gathered press at Christiansborg that the Crown Prince had sustained a neck injury, and therefore could not participate in the royal family's celebration of the Danish athletes.

More info in this EB article (as commoner mentioned, above)

http://ekstrabladet.dk/flash/kongelige/danskekongelige/frederiks-trampolin-ulykke-gaar-verden-rundt/6350929

- according to EB information the accident happened shortly before 4:00 pm on Thursday afternoon.

- Other people using the hall had been ushered into another room as the hall was to be used for a birthday.

- the Crown Prince was doing a reverse somersault, but landed on his neck, causing the fracture.

- a woman who saw the Crown Prince immediately after the accident told EB

"I saw the Crown Prince sat with ice, and he even walked away. There came an ambulance, but the Crown Prince was driven away by his PET people."
