Constitutional duties

This forum is intended to highlight the special duties which apply to the Crown Prince as the heir to the throne.

The specific duties are divided into three topics.

Audiences

Official Government Meetings

Regent

The purpose here is to highlight the part of the job as Crown Prince that generally is not seen by much of the public, nor much covered by the media.

As the heir apparent to the throne of Denmark Crown Prince Frederik is obligated to stand in for the Queen on occasions when she is unavailable or unable to perform the constitutional duties of head of state.

Crown Prince Frederik can officiate at Audiences.  He attends Council of State meetings, and takes part in other ceremonial or other meetings with government ministers, such as the regular meetings with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs where the Queen and the Crown Prince are briefed about the internal and foreign political situation.

The title of the Regent topic is more specific than it might seem.  While Rigsforstander is the title given to Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte when they are assigned to stand in for the Queen, Crown Prince Frederik is never titled Rigsforstander.  He becomes the Regent.  Different documents are signedwhen the Queen temporarily hands over the duties of monarch to her immediate heir.
