On 14 November 2016 Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary have been married for 12 1/2 years.

In Denmark this anniversary is celebrated as “kobberbryllup” (copper wedding anniversary).

They were married on the 14th May 2004 in Vor Frue Kirke.

                                                                 Danish Anniversary Traditions

http://www.denmark-getaway.com/danish-anniversary-traditions.html

"The main wedding anniversaries in Denmark are 12 ½, 25 and 50 years.

25 years used to be the main celebration but with many people getting married late or getting divorced and remarried, the 12 ½ year anniversary is

sort of taking over as the bigger celebration today.

One of the Anniversary Traditions are that at the 3 main anniversaries 12 ½ , 25 and 50 years the neighbours, family and friends make an arch

around the front door of the home where you are living, if it is a Copper Anniversary (12 ½ year) however it will only go half way.
The arch is put up during the evening before the anniversary and it is a tradition that in the early morning, between 6 and 7am., of the anniversary,

family, friends and neighbours gather in front of the arched door most likely accompanied with some kind of music and start singing for the

anniversary couple.

The anniversary couple thereafter invite all the singing guests in for breakfast after a couple of songs, they serve coffee, bread rolls and Danish

pastry and most likely a couple of Old Danish Bitters.

Apart from the breakfast, family, friends and the closest neighbours are usually invited to a party, most likely in a hired hall or community hall where

a three course meal are most likely to be served. At the party there are speeches and singing involved, homemade songs are personalised

to the couple of the day and contain stories about their lives.

Another one of the Danish anniversary traditions is to take the shoes off the groom and cut the toes off his socks or cut a piece off his tie."

The anniversary will be celebrated privately but there are photos, articles and congratulations in the Danish press.

Billed Bladet video

http://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelige/danmark/kgl-kobberbryllup-eksperter-derfor-er-mary-og-frederiks-kaerlighed-saa-stor

In which court reporters Marianne Singer, Ulrik Ulriksen and editor Annemette Krakau talk about the Crown Princely Couple's joy in each other as a married couple, as parents and as representatives of Denmark.

Maybe someone can pull out a few quotes for us.

Joachim&Marie, Helle and Otto Reedtz Thott with kids, Ellen Hillingsø with kids, Christian and Elisabeth Buchwald & two daughters

(one is Frederik's god daughter), Count Bendt Wedell & family, Malou and Jorgen Skeel and Per Thornit and his wife among others.

The Life Guard Music Corps was in charge of the musical side. Half the town probably heard that.

Lovely that  traditions such as this continue and that good friends bring their children for the early wakeup.

It is a lovely tradition!

"The anniversary couple thereafter invite all the singing guests in for breakfast after a couple of songs, they serve coffee, bread rolls and Danish

pastry and most likely a couple of Old Danish Bitters."

According to the video, they all stayed there for some time and then, yesterday being a Monday morning, all the kids off to school,

as Ellen Hillingsø said when leaving.
