I read somewhere that yesterday was the first time Mary wore the ruby parure to a State visit banquet. Is that really true?
Yesterday was Queen Ingrid's birthday, btw.

I had once read that Mary didn't wear the ruby parure to a State Banquet because she was not yet the consort and she would be in the presence of other consorts.  She only wore it to "State" occasions.  Sounds reasonable.  So,  why last evening?  I loved seeing it with that gown.  Perfection!

Has Mary said that herself? Yesterday was Queen Ingrids birthday but I don't know if it's got anything to do with that.

I don't get why she couldn't wear it as a Crown Princess?

Thanks for sharing ideas you have come across, smt.

I noticed that Queen Ingrid wore the rubies as Crown Princess and as Queen, as well as wearing the crown jewels to which she had access as Queen.

Somewhere there is a quote from Queen Margrethe about use of jewels by brides to the heir in alternate generations. She said the wives of Frederiks had the rubies, but I can't remember what was reserved for the use of the wives of Christians (and Margrethe).

Does anyone recall the interview?

I was so happy to see the Crown Princess wear the ruby parure. It seems fitting to see history being used as it was made to be used, rather than in museums.

Wow, that's a lot of rules...I hope some things change one day in the future.

I think it's a tradition rather than a rule. It would also appear to be set up to allow the wife who had use of the rubies as Crown Princess to continue to use them while she was queen, which is what Queen Ingrid did. The wife of the Frederik before that (F VIII) was Lovisa of Sweden who brought the rubies with her from Sweden when she married into the Danish royal family.

I'm thinking it may be a relatively recent tradition, as Queen Alexandrine (Chr X's queen) used the tiara when she was young, but not the full suite.

They are cheeky.

TV2 had an article about curtsying too, saying Mary and Marie were very correct in the depth of their curtsies to the visiting monarchs.

and an article saying that Minister Søren Pind made a stumble in etiquette by wearing his Order of Dannebrog in 2 forms at the same time.

What other breaches did you notice cph? I'm sure you know more about this than most of us.

It's odd that the curtsies of Mary and Marie look much deeper on photos than on videos. In photos it looks like they are almost on the ground

but in videos it's just a quick deepish dip.

Søren Pind was asked to comment the two orders....He said something along the lines of "the more the merrier"...
