Dansk Militært Idrætsforbund - Danish Military Sports Association is the umbrella organisation for the various sports clubs and teams in the armed forces. Its purpose is to aid and promote sports activities witin the military, including the Home Guard.

Dansk Militært Idrætsforbund itself belongs to Dansk Idrætsforbund - Danish Sports Association, which is the national sports association, under which most athletics clubs worth mentioning belongs.

Crown Prince Frederik agreed to become Patron of the 2008 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship to be held from 10-19 July out of the Aarhus Yachting Harbour and the Bay of Aarhus, on the Jutland peninsula of Denmark.

As the new year begins, the future stars of the sailing world are aiming towards Aarhus in Denmark and the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship this July.
The 38th edition of the event, which is expected to attract over 250 young sailors from more than 60 nations, heads to Denmark for the first time and the championship already has a Royal seal of approval.

Today a Dane, Erik Staarup, set out from Perth on a bike trip across Australia for the Red Cross. There has been no specific mention of Frederik, but a donation to both the Australian and Danish Red Cross will be made by the current holder of the cross-Australia-on-a-bike record Eugen Schilter if Erik and Staarup breaks his record. He offered $15,000 to the person who breaks his record of 55 days, 17 hours and 8 minutes following his route.

It seems he is very experienced! This will be his third trip around Australia by bike and a whole lot of other places

The trip is ambitious and a big personal challenge. Never the less, I believe I have a chance beating the record, and my experience from two previous trips in Australia will surely be an advantage to me.

An added bonus is the $15.000 prize offer by Eugen Schilter for anyone who can beat his record of 55 days, 17 hours and 8 minutes, for an unsupported bike ride around Australia.

Due to Danish/Australian tax authorities, and the fact that it's for a good purpose, it is agreed between Eugen Schilter and me, that the money (If I earn the prize) is to be divided into two equal portions of $7.500 each, and paid directly to the Danish and the Australian Red Cross with one portion to each.

He has a link to track him by satellite here, which shows him heading out of East Bunbury in WA as I type. (follow Australia III/info to get the link)

Siden 1976 har prinsgemalen varetaget hvervet som æresformand for de godt 10.000 medlemmer af Danmarks Marineforening, hvoraf langt størstedelen har gjort eller gør tjeneste under Orlogsflaget, skriver ritzau.

Den 1. juli 2008 overtages posten af kronprins Frederik, der allerede i 1996 blev udnævnt til æresmedlem af foreningen.

Maybe Prince Henrik thinks his son can sit at the adult's table after his 40th birthday. In any case, he he has now entrusted the job as the Danish Marine Society's honorary president to the Crown Prince.

Since 1976 the Prince Consort has handled the job as honorary president of the Danish Marine Society's roughly 10,000 members, of which by far the majority have done or currently do service under the Naval flag, Ritzau reports.

On July 1st 2008 the duty is taken over by Crown Prince Frederik, who in 1996 was appointed as honorary member of the society.

The naval society, which was founded on April 30th, 1913, has been in the good graces of the royal house since its inception. In 1914 Prince Valdemar became the society's first honorary chairman. Following his death in 1939 he was replaced by the Crown Prince's maternal grandfather, then Crown Prince Frederik, and later King Frederik IX, who was the society's honorary president until his death on January 14th, 1972.

Prince Knud handled the presidency from 1975 to his death on June 14th, 1976.
