Crown Prince Frederik comes to Birken
Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark will be lining up on the starting line in Birkebeinerrennet on Saturday.
The 47-year-old has previously completed [sweden's] Vasaloppet four times. Now he attempts Birkebeinerrennet for the first time and is set in the same pool as [Norway's] own Crown Prince Haakon Magnus.
Crown Prince Frederik completed his first Vasaloppet in 2012 with the time 6.36.32. So far, his best time. In 2015 he achieved a time of 6.54.10 under difficult conditions. On that occasion he said to SVT that it was like walking on water skis, but he was pleased with his performance.
In two weeks, the Crown Prince will be in the Arctic Circle Race in Greenland. Participating in Birkebeinerrennet this weekend is the perfect preparation - the Arctic Circle Race goes over 100 and 160 km.
Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark has been in Lillehammer earlier this year, at the opening of the Winter Youth Olympics.

Frederik and CP Haakon are skiing in the same group.

Yes, and some of the Norwegian press are reporting it as a "kronprins duel"

I think Frederik sees this race more as part of his preparation for the even longer and harder Arctic Circle Race

in Greenland...

It's isn't often he has the chance to ski on snow in Denmark.

Two cheery princes ready for the race

Crown Prince Haakon won the "Crown Prince race»

It was Norwegian victory in the competition between our Crown Prince Haakon Magnus and Danish Crown Prince Frederik in Birkebeinerrennet.
There was a good atmosphere when Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Prince Frederik began simultaneously this morning in Birkebeinerrennet. Although both maintained good momentum, it is the Norwegian crown prince as finishing first.
Something that has received the most attention in advance of Birkebeinerrennet 2016 that both the Scandinavian crown princes, Prince Haakon Magnus of Norway and Frederik of Denmark, compete.
Crown Prince Haakon is known to be a very competent skier, but more surprising is perhaps that also crown prince of our flat neighboring countries in south masters cross country very well. He has also gone there considerably longer Vasaloppet four times.
Nevertheless, the Norwegian crown prince drew the longest straw in the internal struggle between them, he came in after the time 4:10:10. But although the smile was loose, he indicated that he was tired after the finish.
- Crown Prince Frederik is more fit than me
- It was much heavier this year than last year. It was fun to go, but real heavy, said Haakon just after he crossed the finish line at the ski stadium in Lillehammer, to great acclaim.
And even if he defeated his Danish friend, does not mean the Dane is considered less vigorous, rather the opposite.
- It is impressive that Crown Prince Frederik started the race, and he is more fit than me. But this course and these conditions fit enough me better, said Crown Prince Haakon.
Laughter Mild before start
It was a morning bland and laughing Crown Prince who met NRK's reporter a few hours earlier, before the start at Rena and with the 54 kg meter trip over the mountains to the Lillehammer in front of him.
And his target in terms of individual performance was the following:
- The goal is to go a little faster than I think I can, that it makes little hurt throughout.
And the crown prince admitted gladly that there is little prestige involved when you first compete.
- That's exactly what the problem is, so I try to take it down really, he said, laughing.
Glad of good weather
But whatever their shape - the crown prince rejoiced large over the weather.
- First and foremost, I hope that it will be a good trip over the mountain. It's incredibly nice weather today, it's nice when it was a little difficult last year.
