Only slightly OT, but I thought this interview with Danish Katja Iversen, CEO of Women Deliver, was interesting.

It also tells that there has been many unofficial meetings for Mary leading up to the conference.

Work meetings that could and should have been on the official calendar.

From allotment to frontman for worlds women

"Hello Katja, good to see you"

Crown Princess Mary slows down in her targeted walk into the hall in the House of Industry,

where several hundred spectators are waiting for the royal VIP.

She gives Katja Iversen a hug and smile before she and Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen (V) and the Confederation of Danish Industries Managing. Director, Karsten Dybvad, hurry on to the Assembly, which will discuss the UN's 17 global development goals.

Katja Iversen is not just anyone. She is on first name terms with Crown Princess Mary and leaders from global organizations like the UN and small grassroots organizations in the poorest parts of the world."

"Somewhere between conference calls and flights Katja Iversen has found room for a short visit to

Copenhagen. Among others to greet some of the participants at the conference on the UN global goals,

do a series of interviews, and negotiate the last things in place before the conference.

And there is also time to greet Crown Princess Mary, who is patron of the Women Deliver Conference

and therefore has had many meetings with Katja Iversen"

A year ago, former minister Mogens Jensen appointed a conference committee

"Today begins the work of the committee, Minister of Trade and Development Cooperation Mogens Jensen

states in connection with Denmark's hosting of the world's largest women's conference, Women Deliver,

in 2016.

HRH The Crown Princess, who has been appointed patron of the conference, will follow the meetings

of the committee"

DI/Danish Industry photo exhibition during Women Deliver 2016

"Danish companies make every day a positive difference for women in the poorest countries.

It is the focal point of a new photo exhibition from DI, which HRH Crown Princess Mary and

Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen opens Tuesday in connection with the Women Deliver conference

in Bella Center."

When Princess Mary Monday at 16.30 goes on stage at the Bella Center to open the international conference - 'Women Deliver' - it will be the current pinnacle of her dedicated efforts to empower women worldwide.
The conference will be the largest on a global level in a decade and lasts from Monday to Thursday with participants from around the globe. As patron is Crown Princess played a central role in the organization, and in the next few days she will actively participate in seminars and debates.
On Monday afternoon, she opens the conference in front of a large audience, then the Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen speak, and so dazzled that up for the first panel discussion including singer Annie Lennox, former Prime Minister of Norway and UN chief Gro Harlem Brundtland, Margaret Chan from WHO and CEO Sakena Yacoobi of the Afghan Institute of Learning.
Earlier in the day will be the crown princess already participating in a seminar with a scary theme, which is that nearly 300,000 women die each year during pregnancy and childbirth, while six million children die before their fifth birthday. Almost all developing countries.
Prior to the conference crown princess in several interviews - including Berlingske - established that there is a long way to go before gender equality is a reality. In the Third World may inequality and oppression of women in the worst case lead to mutilation and death. But even in Denmark is our objective. At home, women may still be exposed to domestic violence, it lags equal pay, and there are still few female executives in business - was the message from the Crown Princess.
With its participation in the conference completes Crown Princess yet another transformation.
First, Australian Mary Elizabeth Donaldson married to his chosen one and was one stroke crown princess and future queen of Denmark. Now tones she emerged as an almost royal activist who uses his position to bring attention to disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.
In recent years she has increasingly expanded its engagement outside the country. She has visited refugee camps where women and children have sought refuge from war and persecution. And as a member of various international forums, she has repeatedly spoken of the importance of providing better sex education for young people, and she has created awareness about the excessive number of young girls, as too many places forced into marriages where they are exposed violence and sexual assault.
Best known is probably the speech of Central Park in New York, where she with a single phrase encapsulated the essence of the task she has taken on himself and later persecuted as targeted. The words from the Crown Princess was:
"I'm fighting for women's and girls' Rightful place in our world - equal beside sina husbands, brothers and sons."
In parallel with its international work has crownprincess been busy developing the Mary Foundation, which is based on the simple idea that all people have the right to belong.
Since its inception in 2007 it has been the fund's goal is to help combat social isolation, promoting tolerance and understanding of diversity. And create hope. In practice, by focusing on three areas - bullying, domestic violence and loneliness.
If you go to Mary Foundation's website, one can read these words that almost stands as a mission statement for the Fund's work:
"There are men who have been bullied since they were boys, and who have lost faith in themselves and other people. There are women and children who are psychologically broken by guilt and shame after years of domestic violence. There are older and young people who feel so lonely and beyond that they are no longer able to cope in social situations. These are issues that are hard to talk about. But it's also issues which we must be able to talk about in a society like ours. "
With donations from, among others Danish industry is capital of the fund has grown to more than 150 million. The money is kept untouched, as they must be based on a long-term effort. But the annual yield will go to work to combat social isolation within the three selected areas.
Should we say the cards, Crown Princess efforts primarily described with the word - impressive. In the short time she has accomplished amazing deal. From the start, she used his unique position to make a difference, and she has lifted the task of both professionalism and passion. Which has extorted the respect in the world.
Few people think about it, but it's not a given that a crown princess can establish a fund - which is growing so rapidly grows big - while avoiding to tangle with the many other players who are in the social sector. But at that point, her strategy to create a framework for new projects and partnerships with other been clever. The fund is on the way a midwife and partner - and not a competitor.
Next, it is clear that they have succeeded for the Crown Princess to create an invisible but important alliance with many politicians who have met her and followed her work at conferences, travel or had her visiting some of the parliamentary committees. It is characteristic that the Crown Princess consistently receive praise on the road of politicians, and this also applies to the ministers who accompanied her on trips around the world.
Perhaps most importantly makes the Crown Princess a strong impression by working so hard for his causes.
In recent weeks - amid preparations for next week's conference - was she and Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen (V) on a visit to Burkina Faso in order to focus on women's and girls' health and rights.
Shortly before leaving for the impoverished West African country, she participated in the event 'Denmark eat together' in Nørrebrohallen where 400 attended the communal. And a few days earlier, she opened the new social and health school in Vesterbro.
These rebates witnesses at one time on the range and intensity of her work.
Well, there's certainly no murmurs? The answer is that you must have an exceptionally good hearing to intercept them. Which does not mean that the Crown Princess should override potential challenges.
One of them is about how she is so concerned with its international operations and development of the Mary Foundation, that she must not forget that the role of a crown princess is more than to be a successful and passionate CEO in social political and humanitarian field.
In addition, individual critics have noticed that she has repeatedly come close to violating the limit the royale may not occur, and which is about to express themselves politically.
So far the criticism, however, been refuted by most experts, and later held one of the most perceptive connoisseurs of the Danish royal family - Jes Fabricius Moller from the University of Copenhagen - that the Crown Princess with his opinions on women and gender equality has remained on the right side of the line . Or, as he recently explained to Jyllands-Posten:
"Since Easter the crisis in 1920, we have had a division of labor between the elected politicians and the royal family - the politicians deal with politics, royal family maintains the role of a neutral head of state. It could be interpreted such that the royal family can not comment in a debate in which there is an opposition in parliament. "
His point is that no parties are fighting against equal pay, just as there are no parties who claim that there are enough women at the top of society. Had the Crown Princess said that she would have female quotas on boards to enhance gender equality, it would have been a problem for this issue is just not political agreement.
Opposite the newspaper did Jes Fabricius Møller himself also advocated that a modern royal family should be shrouded in tolerance: "We must be careful that we are not on the one hand criticize the royal family just to cut off the cord above and then on the other side - when they do get involved in something relevant - to fall upon them with criticism that they interfere politically. "
Another challenge is that Crown Princess Mary may become so significant that she too much outshines her husband, Crown Prince Frederik. In the media, at Christiansborg and in the circle close to the royal whispered at intervals that the crown prince might come to stand in the shadow of his wife, and that the balance of the formidable team they represent, may be skewed because of the Crown Princess ever-sharper profile.
In the relatively quiet and friendly criticism it has gone back to the crown prince - after his many great sports performance - should show a greater visibility and expand its interests to deal with more than the world of sports.
The process is in full swing. The Crown Prince has become a treasured frontman for important business promotion and big conferences, like he is playing an increasingly central role in state visits both at home and abroad. He has also become more comfortable in dealing with the media and safe in the difficult art to keep talking - even if the strictly formal speech will never be his favorite form of communication.
If God was a woman
Moreover, even the harshest critics can not suppress the crown prince huge force, which is that the Danes would simply love him. A large proportion of the population over the years has followed his wrestle with his destiny and his struggle to find his role, and they have seen how he now emerges as a man who embraces the outside world. And that is an essential quality of a future king.
Should we point to a rare downturn for the royal couple, it is really only the recent trip to the Saudi royal family, which stands as a situation where the Crown Princess and Crown Prince seems to have been cast in error.
Today there are not very many - neither in the government, including officials at Slotsholmen or professional organizations - which are especially proud of the journey. For here it was obvious that the royal couple was put in a difficult situation of having to open doors for a Danish business community who would like to sell goods to a regime that right now is accused of being deeply involved in the devastating conflict in the Middle East while under harsh criticism for having financed terror for years. In addition comes a poor image associated with the blatant oppression of women. The pictures of Crown Princess Mary, who vainly stretched out his hand to greet the powerful Saudis, is still imprinted on the retina of several participants on the journey.
That said, it's hard to find hair in the soup.
Individually and together have the Crown Princess and Crown Prince achieved a unique popular support, and they seem increasingly ready to take the job, which is about a day should be the focal point for the Danes and endow a more than 1,000-year-old monarchy relevant and clout in a modern society.

Thanks for posting that excellent article, cph. It's a pleasure to see press coverage with a bit more substance.

Lots of interesting twitter feed throughout the conference:
