It's great!

It is. And sort of appropriate even if it was done last year.

According to BB, the family is gathered at Fredensborg Palace.

Both sons and their families arrived by car, wearing dark glasses.

Queen Margrethe has just been out to the edge of Fredensborg Palace Courtyard to greet people and see the flowers many visitors have left there.

BB reporter Trine Larsen commented

"It's very, very touching. She has just lost her husband and her love through 50 years, and then she has the strength to go down and see it all"

English version

http://kongehuset.dk/en/media-centre/press-releases/press-release-salute-firing

"His Royal Highness Prince Henrik died on Tuesday 13 February 2018.

A mourning salute will take place tomorrow at 8.00 am. The mourning salute will be carried out from the Sixtus Battery on Holmen in Copenhagen and from the

cannons at Kronborg Castle in Helsingør. The Navy’s Military Police Guard on Holmen will fire the cannons at the Sixtus Battery, and soldiers from the Artillery Unit

at Oksbøl will fire the cannons at Kronborg Castle.

The salute consists of three times 27 shots, which are fired at 30-second intervals (approx. 40 minutes). Seen historically, during Danish warfare, the “dansk løsen”

consisting of three shots was fired to indicate the placement of the Danish units. The mourning salute has its roots in the “dansk løsen”, and therefore there is a tradition

that it can be divided into three.

February 14, 2018
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark:

“I join in mourning the death of His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark.  As Prince Consort alongside Her Majesty Queen Margrethe, he spent the past forty-six years helping to represent Denmark and its traditions around the world.  As a proud Danish-American, I’ve been honored to welcome members of the royal family on visits to the United States and to the Congress, and I have always been impressed by their devotion and service to the cause of Danish democracy, European unity, and global human rights.  Denmark and the United States continue to stand together as allies in NATO and in our common cause of promoting freedom and opportunity around the world.

“I offer my condolences to Her Majesty, to Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, to Their Royal Highnesses Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, and to all of Prince Henrik’s eight grandchildren and extended family – along with all the Danish people – as they mourn this loss.”
