mls
http://kongehuset.dk/en/news/hrh-the-crown-princess-named-as-president-of-wwf-denmark "Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess has taken over as president of World Wildlife Fund for Nature Denmark and will, from now on, lead the fund’s work of protecting wildlife habitat and nature’s diversity. WWF Denmark works to protect threatened animal species and disseminate solutions that can ensure a better future for nature and the globe. In 1972, Prince Henrik took the initiative to establish WWF’s branch in Denmark and, until his death, The Prince was president of the organization. Now, HRH The Crown Princess assumes the role as president. In this connection, Her Royal Highness says: “We have only one globe, and we must take care of it and the animals if our children and generations after them are to have a safe and natural world in which to grow up. The projects that WWF Denmark works with all over the world are important in the efforts to protect our forests, coral reefs and diverse wildlife, and it is crucial that we, together, find new solutions for how people can live in balance with nature. For several years, The Crown Princess has actively worked with the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals, and with the role as president of WWF Denmark, Her Royal Highness looks forward to being a part of the organization’s work in finding solutions to the challenges the world faces in relation to conserving nature, protecting threatened species and creating more nature.” Press release from WWF Denmark via Ritzau https://via.ritzau.dk/pressemeddelelse/hkh-kronprinsesse-mary-udnaevnt-til-praesident-for-wwf-verdensnaturfonden?publisherId=11565599&releaseId=13596130

October 2020, 10:00 am HRH The Crown Princess participates as president of WWF Denmark's in a board meeting - virtually. "Today, a board meeting was held of the WWF World Wide Fund for Nature, of which I have recently taken over as President. During the meeting, we gained insight into some of the latest knowledge about nature, wildlife and biodiversity, and what it takes to reduce the threat we currently see to animal species and biodiversity. We cannot continue to use nature's resources in the way we have done so far - we must find the right balance. And it's a common project for everyone." On UN's International Biodiversity Day on 22 May 2021, the WWF World Wide Fund for Nature and the Crown Princess launch a new digital project that aims to bring Danes together about nature. Until 11 June, Danes are encouraged to share their nature photos and experiences under the hashtag #ForNaturenWWF on Instagram - preferably with a short text about where it was taken. The project kicks off with the theme ‘Forest & Land’, and every Saturday a new theme is launched. The Crown Princess and WWF World Wide Fund for Nature experts will comment on selected photos along the way. Thus, WWF's experts contribute with exciting stories about the different places, animal, fungal and plant species that the Danes have portrayed. The background for the project is, among other things, the Red List 2019, which shows that Danish animal, plant and fungal species have not improved since 2010, and that many species are still at risk of extinction. In connection with the launch of the project, the Crown Princess states: “During the past year, many have experienced that nature has become more important to them. We cannot take nature and all its beauty and wealth for granted. Denmark's nature is under pressure, and many unique animal, plant and fungal species are in danger of extinction. That is why I encourage everyone to pay tribute to nature with us on social media. The more we are aware of what is happening in nature, the more we are willing to take care of it. ” Every day, a photo is highlighted on WWF's Instagram profile, and WWF's experts comment on the highlighted photo based on the photo's location, (endangered) nature, status, role and aesthetics. This shares both the nature experience and knowledge about biodiversity. Every Friday, a panel consisting of, among others, the Crown Princess and WWF’s Secretary General Bo Øksnebjerg highlights this week's photo."
