3. February 2021

Today, as a patron of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, I attended a briefing for ambassadors from the region. Here I got a status on the COVID-19 situation and including a status for vaccinations.

What I took with me from the briefing was that even though there is still some way to go, there is reason to be optimistic - infection rates are falling in several places, we are constantly building up new important knowledge… and then we now have the vaccine. I can feel in myself and others around me that it feels difficult right now and that our patience is being put to the test. Therefore, it is good to hear that we can be hopeful - it can give us energy to persevere and hold on.

Instead of a screenshot, I have chosen one of my own photos, which could signal that with each passing day, we are moving towards lighter times. -

Danmarks Indsamling this year is about helping children affected by the corona crisis. Unfortunately, it is often the weakest and most vulnerable who are hit hardest by crises. And children are no exception… .on the contrary.

Unfortunately, there are many children in the world who have had their lives changed due to prolonged shutdowns as a result of corona. For many of these children, school means more than education, it also means protection. Children who are unable to attend school will now live a life at greater risk of violence, abuse, lack of food, prostitution, child marriage and the risk of ending up in extreme poverty. We have seen a decline in extreme poverty for many years, and now we are unfortunately seeing an increase for the first time in 22 years.

Now these children do not know what is happening, for their future is uncertain and they face an uncertain place. It is hard to accept that they have to watch their dreams of a brighter future falter.

I talked about this, among other things, with host Mark Stockholm the other day, when we recorded an interview for the fundraiser show, which can be seen on Saturday.

This year's fundraiser will help the children of the corona crisis through projects that give children in the world's poorest countries access to clean water, schooling and medical care.

This year, the Queen Margrethe's and Prince Henrik's Foundation supports Denmark's Collection with DKK 500,000. Crown Prince Frederik's and Crown Princess Mary's Foundation supports Danmarks Indsamling with DKK 300,000

On average, 14 people are affected daily by cardiac arrest out of a hospital in Denmark. A defibrillator can mean the difference between life and death, and now there is a defibrillator available at the entrance to Amaliehaven near Amalienborg. The defibrillator was received by Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess from the Heart Association in continuation of the Heart Association's National Distribution in 2019, from which all money raised went to the distribution and setup of more than 400 new defibrillators across the country.

The Crown Princess is patron of the Heart Association, and it was Her Royal Highness' wish that a defibrillator would be set up in a place in Copenhagen where many people move about. The Heart Association therefore investigated a possible location and determined the location at the entrance to Amaliehaven, where there are usually many people, including tourists from home and abroad.

What a lovely picture of Mary!
Radiantly beautiful and sweet standing there in the first Spring sun. Let’s hope these dark corona times soon turn. Thanks to the Heart Association and all the Heart Runners for the great initiative and Mary for a wise choice of location.

Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess was today visited by Minister for Development Cooperation Flemming Møller Mortensen, who presented the priorities for the development area for the coming years.

And then the Crown Princess and the Minister discussed the status of especially girls' and women's rights around the world. A development that in many areas has been rolled back due to the corona situation and the closure in many countries. The closure of schools in particular has meant that, unfortunately, there has been a large increase in the number of unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, child marriages and violence.

Mary has written the preface for the Maternity Foundation book

https://www.instagram.com/p/CMxLCwbgb91/

"It must not cost lives to give life" - that is the title of the Maternity Foundation book, for which Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess has written a preface. The book was published in the autumn on the occasion of its 15th anniversary, but the Crown Princess in the circumstances could only receive at a meeting in dag.

At the meeting told Henriette Svarre Nielsen and Anna Frellsen about the organization's work to reduce maternal mortality and infant mortality in developing countries - including with the Safe Delivery Program. But the numbers are still far too high and are unfortunately expected to rise a lot due to the corona situation. So there is a long way to go before we reach the goal in the book's title.

In the preface, Crown Princess Mary writes that all women, no matter where they live, have the right to a safe pregnancy and birth.

"As a mother, I know for myself how important and reassuring it is to have a midwife and other health professionals, their knowledge and support by their side during both pregnancy and childbirth. But I am also painfully aware that this is far from the reality for women in large parts of the world, the Crown Princess says, and emphasizes how bad things are with sad facts that 800 women and 14,000 infants lose their lives every day in connection with pregnancy and childbirth. A high mortality rate, which, according to the Crown Princess, could be reduced with appropriate programs.

🚴🏽‍♂️🚴🏼🚴🏻‍♀️ The pedals were stepped on when His Royal Highness the Crown Prince cycled with injured veterans on the country roads around Vordingborg yesterday. The training was part of the preparations for this summer's big race Ride4Rehab. The race, which is in nine stages, is part of the DIF Soldier project, where the purpose is to give a group of injured veterans a physical experience of cycling through Denmark. In addition, the project has a goal of improving the lives of physically and mentally injured veterans through sports and communities. The cycling training yesterday was 55 kilometers and started and ended at Vordingborg Barracks.

During the training, community and team spirit were boosted as the pedals were firmly stepped on. The Crown Prince also had the opportunity to hear several of the injured veterans' harsh stories. In connection with today's training, the Crown Prince states: "Community through physical exercise is the main element in DIF Soldier Project and Ride4Rehab, and it is clear that exercise as a tool helps vulnerable veterans to have a better everyday life. It was a great pleasure to participate in today's Ride4Rehab training. and meet the veterans. "
Among the veterans who cycled in the Ride4Rehab training and met the Crown Prince was Kenneth Henriksen from Odense. He has previously been deployed to Iraq and today suffers from ptsd: "We are training hard at the moment to be in as good shape as possible before we have to drive Ride4Rehab this summer. Therefore, it just gives a shot of extra confidence when the Crown Prince gives us support and rides a bike at such a training session as today. The Crown Prince managed to have a good chat with many of us veterans, and then he was in excellent shape, "says Kenneth Henriksen with a smile:

"Yesterday, Deputy headmaster Henrik A. Bunde from Skelgårdsskolen in Tårnby and teacher Kristian Bruun Nielsen shared the school's experiences with our latest school well-being program with H.R.H. The Crown Princess, Director of 'Børns Vilkår' Rasmus Kjeldahl, Save the Children's Secretary General Johanne Schmidt-Nielsen and Director of The Mary Foundation  Helle Østergaard.

The three organizations are jointly behind the School Force, which was launched in the autumn of 2020. 12 schools are in the process of implementing and another 10 schools will start later in the year.

Dissatisfaction and bullying are hard to get rid of if everyone in and around the school is not moving in the same direction. The school force therefore involves - as the first school well-being program in Denmark - the ENTIRE school and equips everyone for the work of creating a safe community at school and preventing and dealing with bullying."

https://www.kongehuset.dk/video-hkh-kronprinsessen-besoegte-jonstruplejren

Contact tracing and security is an important element in the handling of COVID-19 in Denmark, and today Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess visited the Jonstrup Barracks in Ballerup, where among others soldiers from the Home Guard and personnel from the Danish Emergency Management Agency help answer the authority's hotline and find telephone numbers on infected citizens.

The Crown Princess, who is a captain in the Home Guard, first visited the contact tracing unit, where a division sergeant and 60 Home Guard soldiers together with 240 civilians daily help the Danish Agency for Patient Safety to contact the infected and find close contacts. During today's visit, the Crown Princess was briefed on the daily work, which is led by a duty officer from the National Police. After the visit, Her Royal Highness continued in Jonstrup Barracks, where the joint authority's hotline is also located. Here, general questions from citizens about COVID-19 are answered daily from 06.00 in the morning until midnight. In addition to soldiers from the Home Guard, health professionals from the National Board of Health are also present in the hotline, and during the visit the Crown Princess had the opportunity to overhear a call from a citizen.

The Home Guard provides approximately 115 soldiers per day for operations in both the contact tracing unit and the joint authority hotline.
