Muhler Posted July 16, 2009 Report Share Posted July 16, 2009 Thanks Karline and Aus73 In Billed Bladet #29, 2009, we are informed that Prince Henrik showed up unannounced at the Tunø festival. That's musical festival held each summer on the small island of Tunø, off the coast of eastern Jutland. Now, I'm not pulling your legs! I take delight in reading the local papers while at work, including all the little details! Not least the crime-stories. As of middle June, the most serious problem they had had on Tunø was that someone rode an unregistered motorbike on the island. - The police would look into the matter. Serious! That note was next to the notes regarding four boxes of cookies which had been stolen from a grocery in Ry, if I remember correctly. Not to mention the empty bottles and a number of packing cases which had been stolen from a store, in a village not far from where we live. Things can be pretty quiet in the rural parts of DK. An amusing little story in Se & Hør #28, 2009, with photos tells about how Prince Henrik and Queen Margrethe came flying in with helicopter to an event in Holbæk. The helicopter had just touched down, when Prince Henrik cam rushing out and went directly to a bit of shrubbery next to the helicopter. - And there he relieved himself, surrounded by a semi-cordon of PET officers, flight crew and what not. And about 100 metres from the crowd that had gathered. Once he had finished he turned around and faced the crowd who bagan to applaud and cheer. Leading Henrik to wave to them. - After which he, to the delight of the crowd, proceeded to shake hands with some officials who had shown up to greet him. - Well, it wouldn't have bothered me to shake his hand. OMII & PH came flying in and touched down. - A toilet had been set up, screened off with canvas and guarded by members of the donut-patrol = the Police Home Guard (They often take care of directiing traffic at major events but not all are universally effective). So far so good. But the helicopter blew the screen down and that may have led the poor Prince to relieve himself in open air. Anyway, a gentleman wearing a tricot jumped a fence and rushed into the royal, temporary toilet. - If you gotta go... That made a female PET officer go ballistic! The leader of the Home Guard detachment got a public dressing down. - Saying among many other things: "The toilet is located too close to a fence", and "That simply isn't good enough"! Prince Christian is related to the Danish Royal family as he is the great-great-grandson of Frederik VIII of Denmark. Being 75 years old and still having problems with his arm, he no longer feels he can manage the long days in the field and then being host at dinners in the evening as well. The problems with his arm are particularly evident when he is using a shotgun, which is heaver than a rifle and requires considerable movement. He will still attend shorter rifle hunts, but he will no longer be a host at the annual royal hunts. A royal hunts usually lasts about three days, with dinners in the evening and guests staying for the nights. - So I guess we will see yet one more thing being taken over by Frederik and Mary. In other countries, animal rights activists have been quite vocal about the sanctity of life so that a sovereign seen taking part in such activity seem somewhat curious if not outright provocative! Hunters in general have a reputation for being responsible, so it's no big issue. The same thing about fur. It's considered a perfectly normal thing to wear fur. The activists are however much more concerned about the welfare of animals. Not least animals bred for their skin. - And with some justification I might add. Perhaps it has something to do with the distance between urban and rural life being comparatively small? Or because children for many years now have been shown animals on farms, while in kindergarden - including that their ultimate destiny is to be eaten? Or perhaps because children actually see animals being eaten by other animals? The weekday the lions are fed (usually a dead cow) in Givskud Zoo is a favourite among visiting kindergardens. The same thing about seing animals disected. Many if not most know someone who hunt or who live on a farm. I haven't really given it that much thought, perhaps someone else have a better explanation?
