A note in Billed Bladet #36, tells us that Prince Henrik, and Queen Margrethe, will no longer host the royal hunts.

Being 75 years old and still having problems with his arm, he no longer feels he can manage the long days in the field and then being host at dinners in the evening as well.

The problems with his arm are particularly evident when he is using a shotgun, which is heaver than a rifle and requires considerable movement.

He will still attend shorter rifle hunts, but he will no longer be a host at the annual royal hunts.

A royal hunts usually lasts about three days, with dinners in the evening and guests staying for the nights.

- So I guess we will see yet one more thing being taken over by Frederik and Mary. Frederik taking over as leader of the hunts and Mary taking over as attending to the ladies.

Thank you Aus73. :hug2:

An article in Billed Bladet #38, cover this event. A standard visit with chariot rides, flowergirls, mayors and guards hussars. The whole show.

It's hardly a secret that the Regent Couple are very fond of Dannebrog and genuinely enjoy their stay onboard.

Next year Queen Margrethe will turn 70 and that will be celebrated. That also includes an extra extensive summer cruise. Also a cruise to the Faroe Islands. - The article does not say whether M&F will join them, however I should be surprised if not one of the young couples will accompany the Regent Couple to the Faroe Islands as this is more than a normal visit. My personal guess would be Joachim and our Marie, as this would be la Marie's first visit to the islands.

Where has Prince Henril been lately? We have see QMII and the crown prince couple more lately. Hope nothing is wrong with him?

At SeegerPress there are photos of Prince Henrik at Palma de Mallorca.

Use: Daenemark+Henrik+200909 as the search.

The caption from the photos tells us "Prince Henrik of Denmark, with Lin Utzon opening exhibition in Palma de Mallorca, at CCA Andratx Gallery"

According to a new book, Prince Henry moving back to France and Queen Margrethe is therefore considering to leave the throne.

In some ways I sympathize with PH.... He has never been able to make choices that perhasps he would have liked; based on the role his wife has. Sure he knew this when he married her.

However he is now a "pensioned person" and I fully understand, SHOULD this story be true, that he would like to spend his final years, whether short of long, at his chateux in France.

And there relationship between QM and PH appears close, so she would want to grant him the wish I am sure! BUT, before she can do that, and remain with him all the time, stands an abdication. That is a dilemma!!?

I feel people should not put off their wishes till later in life, as there is never a guarentee that those days will ever come. "Rather now than never". I do hope they find a solution, PH deserves to be happy on his estate.

I saw the article too. Thanks mitchell for the links.

The speculation is coming from the author of a book. He never states this as a fact, just speculation that the Queen might consider it.

That's a fairly sensational claim in Denmark, where retirement and abdication of monarchs is not the usual practice. I think there would have to be extraordinary circumstances for it to haqppen.

What do we think? Sensational claims to bring attention to the book this guy is trying to sell?

Does anyone know anything about this author, John Lindskog, or his credibility?

There are 2 reasons why I don't believe this! :)

(1) Queen Margrethe herself has stated that she will never abdicate

(2) CP Frederik was just elected as a member of the IOC - something that was in the works for 2-3 years. Now would the Queen and government allow CP Frederik to become a member of the IOC IF she was planning to abdicate next year? I doubt it.

Something would have to be seriously wrong (illness of Prince Henrik???? God, I hope NOT!!! :( ) who would want to spend his final days in France, for Queen Margrethe to even consider such a thing!

I could imagine Prince Henrik returning to France to live permanently IF Queen Margrethe dies before him.

EDIT:

Discussion ongoing here. The credibility of the author has been questioned.

The serious Danish newspaper Berlingske tidende has talked to the writer of the book in question, John Lindskog.

Here are a few illuminating snippets from the Berlingske article:

The writer of the book ("Royale Rejser"), is a former Se og Hør reporter.

In the past he has been called the "éminence grise" of gossip.

Question: If you cannot know for sure, why do you write it?

Author's answer: You never know these things with any certainty ...

Question: In comparison with your documentation - how much of it is guesswork?

Author's answer: You cannot document anything like this. It's only documented when [if] the Prime Minister announces that she abdicates. That is the nature of guesses.

Question: Everything has been built on guesses - and nothing is documented?

Author's answer: Yes.

O_o:lol:

Thank you, Gudinde.

Lene Balleby is agian according to Berlinske Tidende, denying that Henrik intends to settle in France and enjoy his retirement there.

She is also refusing all speculations about Queen Margrethe abdicating.

http://www.berlingske.dk/danmark/dronninge...ver-hvor-hun-er

- That would indeed have surprised me at lot! M&F are still learning how to be regents, which is what they in my opinion is acting as more and more often.

I also notice that Mary has been paired with Queen Margrethe on several of the arrangements they will attend in Vietnam. Mary will get a lesson in representing her country on official state visites from the best teacher at hand. The Monarch herself.

It will be very interesting to notice how attentive Mary is on how Queen Margrethe does her job. And it will be interesting to see if Mary will adopt some of the behaviour Queen Margrethe is showing her, when she, Mary, is on the job abroad next time.

ADDED: For your info: Only one Danish monarch has ever abdicated. That was a King Erik, in the 1100's. And only because he was paralyzed.
