Muhler
Summary of article in Billed Bladet #47. Prins Henrik på svampejagt - Prince Henrik hunting mushrooms. Written by Ken Richter. Having unofficially semi retired Prince Henrik is spending more and more time at Chateau de Cayx. He has always been fond of hunting, but has abanoned that as he has problems with his balance and at a recent hunt at Faurskov manor on the island of Funen, he contended himself with picking mushrooms, while the others went hunting. And enjoying the lunch afterwards. He said among other: "I fall over if I have to fire multiple shots right after another and that's how it is when hunting pheasants. (*) That's why I don't shoot at birds anymore. They are allowed to fly on". Showing with his arms how they flap their wings. He adds: "I can't maintain my balance. As I have been explained it's something with liquid in one ear, which results in me being dizzy. I believe it's a problem for a number of hunters of my age". (75). (*) For those who are unfamiliar with hunting with shotguns: You swing a lot with your whole body when shooting a shotgun, not least when hunting birds, as you have to follow the birds in flight. And as hunting with shotguns often take place among almost naked trees and as the sky at that time of year is often overcast with a bright sky, it's easy to become dizzy and even disoriented, if you have problems like PH does. Muhler
What has been the reaction of the Danish people to Pr Henrik spending more time in France and will we be seeing Fred acting as regent more often because I would imagine that the Queen will be spending quite a bit of time with her husband. Difficult to answer. Largely indifference I think. Some think that as he has reached retirement age, he deserves it and should be allowed to retire. Some think that he acts like a spoiled brat and if he want's to go to France, he can stay there! But the majority are indifferent I believe. - And why not? We have Mary and her Frederik. And to an ever larger degree our Marie and her Joachim too. So Henrik and even to some degree Queen Margrethe herself is quietly fading out. Muhler
A Q&A in Billed Bladet #48, 2009, informs us that Queen Margrethe, just like her mother, use a hearing aide. That is probably due to the deterioation of the nerves inside the ear, that occour with the age. That was revealed in the book Kongehusets sygdomme - The Illnesses with the DRF, by Jerk W. Langer & Ib Askholm. The book was written in 1997.
