Queen Margrethe's Birthdays

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's a big issue. :@:

There have been many birthdays where members of the family were away. Frederik was in Greenland in 2000; there was no public appearance in 2001; F&M were in Thailand in 2005; Joachim missed 2006) So it is not a tradition for the whole family to always attend. This is not a special milestone year either.

Frederik is in the Farr40 Sailing World Championship from 11 - 19 April. Mary's schedule was left clear for that entire time. (calendar) It's possible she and the children are supporting Nanoq in Miami.

It's also nice for Marie to have her first balcony appearance with the Queen in a relatively uncluttered way. If the Crown Princely Family was there, all the reports would be about Princess Isabella's first balcony appearance :P

I actually think it was a bit of good PR work that F&M were not at the balcony appearance (altho we know Fred is in Miami). As a poster said the focus would have been on Isabella, Christian and even what Mary was wearing so because it's Marie's first balcony appearance she could have some of the focus with the Queen.

Happy birthday Your Majesty. Love, love, the new banner.

Thanks all for photo and video links. :@:

I think it was excellent PR that Frederik, Mary , Christian and Isabella were not present at the balcony. Or else they were be centre of focus from media and photographers. It is good that space was given for Marie, the future bride of Joachim and his children Nicholai and Felix.

As for Frederik away for the sailing competiton should not be an issue as he is a sportsman and the World Junior Sailing competition is held later this year in Denmark and he is the Royal Patron. That would generate quite a bit of revenue for Denmark as more than 200 sailing boats are coming in from all over the world. As gudinde has pointed HRH was not present a few times during the Queen's birthday. The queen would have given her approval of their absence. :)

Even though I miss them at the balcony, I hope Mary and the children have a wonderful holiday there with Frederik. Looking forward for some good photos during Isabella's first birthday next week- making it all more precious. :baby2:

I wish Frederik, Mary, Christian and Isabella were there for a family photo at balcony. However we don't need to worry, we will have many opportunites in the future for family's photoshot. Of course, all the focus was on Marie, since it was her balcony's debute.

All the family looked happy, the children seemed to enjoy the whole situation, especially Nikolaj. When I saw the video, I thought he noticed someone or something in the crownd and waved fondly to. I like the way Marie looked at Nikolaj at these photos, she was sweet

Queen Margrethe will not celebrate her 71 anniverssary at Amalienbrg this year, but at her summer residence Marselisborg Castle in Aarhus. The reason is, that this year the her birthday is falling in the Easter week and she always spend the Easter at Marselisborg. There will be limited access to the Marselisborg Park for the public at noon, where she will greet her people from one of the windows in the castle.

The queen was celebrated in Aarhus

Despite the grey and dreary spring weather several thousand people headed for Marselisborg Palace on Saturday to celebrate the royal birthday. Queen Margrethe together with Prince Henrik received several thousand attendees in the Palace grounds.

There were princesses in their finest robes. There were young families with baby carriages, grandparents with grandchildren on a trip, Japanese tourists with long lenses and lots of royalists among the many thousands of people Saturday had come to say congratulations to Queen Margrethe, who turns 71 years today. A birthday she chose to celebrate in Aarhus, to the delight of all attendees.

Well an hour before today's protagonist appeared on the porch in front of the beautiful Marselisborg Palace, with Prince Henrik at her side, droves of people gathered together on the lawn.

There was provision for seats at the front. Everyone wanted a glimpse of the royal couple.

"A tenfold cheers for Denmark. Long live Denmark," came as usual from Queen Margrethe, who received good support from the attendees.

"Congratulations, congratulations," came from the crowd. The queen smiled back.

Unfortunately for Aarhusians the royal couple were not joined by either children or grandchildren. But Aarhusians got what they came for after all. A happy royal couple, a smiling birthday, birthday songs and royal wine.
