The presentation of the gift takes place in Frederik VIII's Palace, Amalienborg on Wednesday, November 18, 2015. Japan was on 11th of March 2011 hit by an earthquake and shortly after a tsunami that claimed many lives and injuries. The Crown Prince visited shortly after the disaster stricken area around Higashi-Matsushima, and the Crown Prince's visit is still remembered by many Japanese with gratitude. The city of Higashi-Matsushima and agriculture in the local area was hit hard by the tsunami, but in 2015 the first rice since the disasters has been planted and harvested. In gratitude to the Crown Prince representatives from the Higashi-Matsushima region have asked to present the Crown Prince with the first rice harvested in Higashi-Matsushima since 11 March 2011. Tomoko Kitamura Nielsen, who has arranged several visits in Denmark of Higashi-Matsushima hands over the rice to the Crown Prince, she is accompanied by Bjarke Takashi Røjle Christensen and Jon Daniel Jacobsen, both of whom have close links to the city. The Danish Embassy in Tokyo and Danish companies have also helped with relief and then again in the reconstruction phase.
