CP Mary & Queen Margrethe earlier today at the traditional "Ladies Outing".

It's a tradition, that while the men (women?) are out hunting, the Queen hosts a cultural outing for their wives/partners.

Seems to be mostly exhibitions and museums and such.

Is that Carina Axelsson behind Mary?

Gallery from the game parade at Fredensborg. Frederik, Mary, the twins, Prince Gustav of Berleburg & Carina (thanks smt) among others.

There's usually a big dinner after the hunt.

Including photos of dead animals.

This is not from a Danish article, and it might not be exactly how it's done in Denmark, but it gives an explanation to the game parade

http://www.humansandnature.org/hunting-soňa-supekova

"After a hunt, hunters pay their respects to the game taken. During the closing ceremony—the game bag—the game is laid down, with its right side facing the ground, in a rectangle defined by pine branches. There are fires at each of the four corners. With this presentation, hunters say goodbye to the game and show their appreciation for nature. Each downed animal has a small branch most often from a pine tree, in its mouth representing its last bite. When taking the game from the place where it was caught, the hunters point the animal’s head toward the natural area so that for the last time it can look at the place where it lived."

I had to do a double-take on Vincent -- he's a mini-Christian.  BTW, I also saw the Reed-Thotz couple (check my spelling!) in the group.

It's the first time I've noticed it too.

Reedtz-Thott. Difficult name. I always have to check the spelling before writing ;)

"The slogan sounded at 8 am at Fredensborg Palace for the hunting party, which then headed to Grib forest to continue the longstanding tradition that helps to keep

wildlife on a sustainable level.

After the hunt there was a late lunch in the Orangery, before the traditional game parade on the palace courtyard in Fredensborg,

where the Queen, Crown Prince, Crown Princess and the twin prince and princess greeted the people of the forest, who alongside

the hunting party has helped during the hunt. The day ended with a dinner at the castle."

The article also mentions, that it's the first time in years that Prince Henrik doesn't attend. Which is probably why so many of the

usual participants are missing.

Thanks cph.

In response to the claims in the article, and as we explain each year, the reason wild herds are culled in cold countries is so that entire species do not slowly starve to death during winter, while food is scarce because of snowfall. When numbers are reduced by hunting, those left can survive on the available fodder, to reproduce again in the Spring. Hunting in Denmark is a closely regulated activity, with licenced hunters monitored so that numbers are not exceeded, and the meat is used for food. Danish children are taught to respect where their food comes from, just as children on farms in other parts of the world learn about animal husbandry.

Her og Nu have an article too

It's the same in other Nordic countries.

Hunting is not considered an "elitist" hobby that is frowned upon.

This is from a Finnish web page, but gives an idea:

"Approximately 300,000 persons obtain a hunting card in Finland annually. The number is high in relation to overall population, when compared to

other European countries. Hunting has been easily available as a hobby for ordinary citizens in Finland.

"Hunting has maintained its position as a common and well-respected hobby with high social acceptability."

Would be nice to see a photo from the banquet some time....It's not just any dinner, it seems, with 3 hairdressers available.

I think the man on the right is QM's hairdresser.

"Had the honor and pleasure to help these two very inspiring people to me yesterday at Fredensborg Castle to the Queen's hunt

banquet where guests were made ready"
