The recipient of the award this year is Inge Marie Svane, who has for many years been researching the link between the immune system and cancer. Today she is one of Denmark's foremost experts in immunotherapy, which covers a variety of treatments that can help the patient's own immune system to fight cancer. Working in close and respectful cooperation with patients, Professor Svane's treatment regimes are producing excellent results.

Cancer Society Merit Award 2017

HRH The Crown Princess on February 4th presents the Cancer Society Merit Award 2017.
The Cancer Society Merit Award is intended to honor a person or group that has made a special effort in the cancer field.

The Crown Princess is in charge of the presentation of the Danish Cancer Society's Honorary Award 2017 awarded by the World Cancer Day in Playhouse in Copenhagen. At the award ceremony the Crown Princess makes a speech.

It is the fifth time the Crown Princess has led the presentation of the Danish Cancer Society's Honorary Award, which was first awarded in 2011.

Last year the Crown Princess presented the Cancer Society Merit Award 2016 to Maiken Hjerming, cancer nurse and youth coordinator at the hospital. Maiken Hjerming received the award for her initiative to establish "Kræftværket" at the hospital. Kræftværket, which is a meeting place for young cancer patients, offering age-appropriate joint activities and providing an opportunity for cancer patients to be with peers. In addition, Kræftværket's young ambassadors and volunteers provide support for young cancer sufferers, while also holding events and excursions.

In December 2016, the Crown Princess visited Kræftværket and had the opportunity to meet cancer patients aged 15-29 years.
