Why do the Danish and Belgian royals wear sashes on different sides? I mean, Danes from right to left, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde from left to right.

It's because the Danish Order of the Elephant (as worn tonight by the Belgian king and queen) is always worn from the left shoulder, while the Belgian orders, and most other orders, are worn from the right shoulder. Tonight Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik wear the Belgian Order of Leopold, and Crown Princess Mary appears to be wearing the Belgian Order of the Crown, as does Prince Joachim. Princess Marie's order appears to be the Order of Leopold IInd class, I think.

Thank you both very much for providing the photos and links to coverage.

J&M arrive at about 38 minutes.

CPF&CPM at about 40 minutes.

Queen Margrethe arrives with her entourage about 45 minutes into the video, inspects the guard, then returns to the entrance of the Guards Hall to greet the Belgian King and Queen and escort them through to the banquet.

I thought that was a lovely solution to the asymmetry resulting from Prince Henrik's absence.

Very nice! I'm inspired to hold a formal dinner party.

Much better choice of floral arrangements on the main table this time ;) Last time the Icelandic President and his wife were hidden behind the flowers.

That's very observant of you, mls

Some things a noticed:

The complementary contrast in the colours of the gowns of the 2 queens

The fact that Mary and Marie chose muted tones, which made the queens stand out

The way CPM's rose champagne gown and burgundy sash both picked up the colours of her rubies so well - a very successful ensemble.

Lovely to see that Princess Elizabeth was on the guest list

Danish actor Birgitte Hjort Sørensen's tiara looked a little like QM's golden poppies, and it suited her

During visits from royal families with access to historic jewel collections CPM wears her historic jewels, while she chooses her more discrete jewels when visitors don't have access to such things.

The Belgian orders: If we look in 'udelandske dekorationer'

It seems Crown Prince Frederik already had the Leopold Order, Grand Cross

Crown Princess Mary's new order has not been updated yet

http://kongehuset.dk/den-kongelige-familie/kronprinsparret/hkh-kronprinsessen

Joachim already had the Belgian order

and Marie's order has not been updated yet.

I read somewhere that yesterday was the first time Mary wore the ruby parure to a State visit banquet. Is that really true?

We will have to check our records. I have the impression that Mary has worn her ruby parure to a previous state visit, but it may have been at one o QM's big birthday galas.

Do we have this reception line video posted?

Repeated deep curtsying in high heels is not easy!

I would have thought so. Maybe a decision was made out of respect, and for practical reasons. Princess Elisabeth has difficulty walking and may have been more comfortable not leading the royal party in to the banquet.

Maybe. But she could have changed places with J&M. Them first, Princess Elisabeth and then the rest.

Just wondering because Queen Margrethe is said to be a stickler for protocol but in some cases she isn't

(like Marie getting out of the car on the wrong side).
