On Saturday, 26 May, it will be 50 years since His Royal Highness The Crown Prince was born as the son of the then-successor to the throne,

Princess Margrethe, and Prince Henrik. The 50th birthday will be celebrated with various events in the period 18.-28. May

18 MAY – JUBILEE CELEBRATION BY THE CROWN PRINCE FREDERIK FOUNDATION

 

On 18 May, The Crown Prince presents grants from the Crown Prince Frederik Foundation in the Alexander Room of Christiansborg Palace.

The foundation and its funds were a gift The Crown Prince received from Danish-Americans as a 25th birthday present during The Crown Prince’s

studies at Harvard University.

 

In the evening, the Crown Prince Couple host a dinner for the board of directors and partners of the Crown Prince Frederik Foundation. 

The jubilee dinner takes place at Frederik VIII’s Palace, Amalienborg.

21 MAY - ROYAL RUN
 

On 21 May, The Crown Prince participates in the running event Royal Run. Royal Run takes place in the cities Aalborg, Aarhus, Esbjerg, Odense

and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg. Those interested can sign up for runs of two different distances, One Mile (1,609 km) and 10 km.

 

The Crown Prince begins the day in Alborg by running in a One Mile race, and afterwards The Crown Prince continues on to Aarhus, Esbjerg and

Odense, and will likewise run One Mile races in these places. The Crown Prince ends the day in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg by running 10 km

through the city.

22 MAY- RECEPTION ON THE ROYAL YACHT DANNEBROG
 

On 22 May, The Crown Prince hosts a reception for The Crown Prince’s patronages aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog.

23 MAY – VISIT IN AARHUS
 

On 23 May, the Crown Prince Couple visit Aarhus. Here, the municipality will host a number of visits at companies and organizations.

The day starts with a visit at Filmby Aarhus, where the Crown Prince Couple will be introduced to the city’s film, business and entrepreneur environment.

Afterwards, the Crown Prince Couple participate in the opening of the Aarhus International Sailing Centre on the waterfront.

23 MAY – OPENING OF CROWN PRINCE FREDERIK CENTRE FOR PUBLIC LEADERSHIP
 

On 23 May, HRH The Crown Prince opens a new research centre at the Aarhus University School of Business and Social Sciences (Aarhus BSS),

which from now on will be named the “Crown Prince Frederik Centre for Public Leadership”.

The new centre at Aarhus BSS will be placed in the Department of Political Science and will be a centre for delivering research-based knowledge

about public leadership.

24 MAY – UNVEILING OF PORTRAIT AT FREDERIKSBORG PALACE
 

On 24 May, the Crown Prince Couple participate in the unveiling of a new portrait of The Crown Prince at The Museum of National History

at Frederiksborg Palace.

 

The new portrait will be the centrepiece of an exhibition with the portraits of the Australian artist Ralph Heimans.

The exhibition “Ralph Heimans Portraits” displays a substantial part of the artist’s works, which include a portrait of HRH The Crown Princess,

members of the British royal family and international personalities.

 

In connection with The Crown Prince’s 50th birthday, the museum also opens the exhibition “HRH Crown Prince Frederik – Prince of Denmark”,

which through clothing and pictures tells about The Crown Prince with a focus on the events and themes that are central in The Crown Prince’s life story.

26 MAY – CHANGING OF THE GUARD AT AMALIENBORG
 

On The Crown Prince’s birthday on 26 May, the Crown Prince Couple, their four children and HM The Queen will come out on the balcony of

Frederik VIII’s Palace, Amalienborg, at 12.00.  

 

The Royal Life Guards will carry out the changing of the guard on Amalienborg Palace Square.

On 26 May, The Queen hosts a gala banquet at Christiansborg Palace on the occasion of The Crown Prince’s 50th birthday

27 MAY – ALL OF DENMARK CELEBRATES THE CROWN PRINCE
 

On 27 May 2018, HRH The Crown Prince and the royal family attend DR’s birthday show “All of Denmark celebrates The Crown Prince”.

The show will be broadcast live from the Royal Arena, Copenhagen on the TV channel DR 1.

HRH The Crown Prince runs One Mile (1,609 km) in Aalborg, Aarhus, Esbjerg and Odense and concludes by running 10 km through Copenhagen

and Frederiksberg’s streets. The Crown Prince will spend around one hour in each city and will, in addition to running, watch entertainment and

greet the Danes who turn out. HRH The Crown Princess runs 10 km in Odense. 

 

Programme

 

Aalborg
09.00

The Crown Prince runs One Mile in Aalborg. Upon arrival, The Crown Prince will be greeted at the Utzon Center by mayor Thomas Kastrup-Larsen

and representatives from The Sports Confederation of Denmark and DGI. In Aalborg, there is a special focus on children and motion, and, after the run,

The Crown Prince will watch a group of children take part in the DGI activity Happy Moves.

 

Aarhus
10.30

The Crown Prince arrives in Aarhus between 10.30 and 11.00. The Crown Prince is welcomed by mayor Jacob Bundsgaard and two representatives

from The Sports Confederation of Denmark and DGI. The Crown Prince will start both the 10 km run and the first One Mile run. When the two groups

of runners have been sent off, The Crown Prince runs One Mile. The Crown Prince will be present when the first 10 km runners come in.

 

Esbjerg
13.00

The Crown Prince arrives between 13.00 and 13.30 in Esbjerg, where mayor Jesper Frost Rasmussen and two representatives from The Sports

Confederation of Denmark and DGI will receive him. At the welcoming ceremony, there will be a parachute jump, after which The Crown Prince

runs One Mile. After his own run, The Crown Prince presents medals to selected runners and starts the 10 km run.

 

Odense
16.00

The Crown Prince Couple are received by mayor Peter Rahbæk Juel and representatives from The Sports Confederation of Denmark and DGI.

The Crown Princess will start the One Mile Run, in which The Crown Prince will participate. Afterwards, The Crown Prince starts the 10 km run,

in which The Crown Princess will participate. In Odense, The Crown Prince will also visit the Runners’ Village.

 

Copenhagen/Frederiksberg
18.00

The Crown Prince arrives at the starting area in Frederiksberg between 18.00 and 18.30. Here, The Crown Prince will be welcomed by Frederiksberg’s

mayor Jørgen Glenthøj and Copenhagen’s Lord Mayor Frank Jensen as well as leaders of The Sports Confederation of Denmark and DGI, respectively.

The Crown Prince starts the elite run and afterwards runs 10 km through the capital.
