It is the Republic of Lithuania’s President, HE Gitanas Nausėda, who has invited The Crown Princess to take part in the official celebration, and Minister for Development Cooperation and Minister for Nordic Cooperation Flemming Møller Mortensen will also be there during the visit.

Denmark officially recognized Lithuania on 28 September 1921, and the recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations with the Baltic countries occurred a couple of years after the countries became independent in 1918. This year, it is also the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic ties after Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania broke away from the Soviet Union in 1991. Both in 1921 and in 1991, Denmark was one of the first countries to establish and re-establish diplomatic relations with the Baltic countries.

In recent years, HM The Queen and The Crown Prince Couple have participated in several celebrations of the Baltic countries’ independence in 1918. Thus, The Crown Prince Couple visited Latvia in 2018, The Queen visited Estonia in 2019, and now The Crown Princess visits Lithuania. In addition to that, earlier in the year, The Crown Prince Couple hosted a dinner at Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg in connection with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Denmark and Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

So far, the DRF coverage on social media has been absolutely crappy: 9 events on the agenda today, the first one started about 7 hours ago and

they have managed one post with one photo and one video...Not to talk about the Danish press unless I've missed it.

Felix, however, has managed to get into the papers as the DRF was nice enough to release the news this morning.

For a number of years, Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess has been the patron of the Danish Cultural Institute, and in connection with the official celebration of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Lithuania, the institute plays a major role.

Thus, the Crown Princess together with First Lady Mrs. Diana Nausėdienė today opened the exhibition “Awakening of Nations”, where more than 40 Danish golden age works can be experienced at Vytautas Kasiulis Art Museum until November 7, 2021. The exhibition is organized by Vytautas Kasiulis Art Museum, Statens Museum for Art, the Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and the Danish Embassy in Lithuania.

Subsequently - at the Lithuanian National Museum of Art in the heart of Vilnius' old town - the Crown Princess gave a speech at a Danish-Lithuanian art seminar, which was also arranged by the Danish Cultural Institute. Then the Crown Princess strolled to the House Signatarų namai (in Danish Signaturernes hus), which is an important historical and symbolic place in Lithuania, as it was in this house that the country's declaration of independence was signed on 16 February 1918. Before this, Lithuania had 123 years been part of Russia.
