Thanks to donations from the Augustinus Foundation and the Knud Højgaard Foundation, Her Royal Highness can turn the first spade of sod for the third and final part of the Zoo’s new facility for Australian animals: “Mary’s Australian Garden”. The groundbreaking for “Mary’s Australian Garden” is, at the same time, the first step in the execution of the Zoo’s master plan, which will mean significant changes in the animals’ facilities in the coming years. The facility will provide more space and well-being for current and new species such as the laughing kookaburra, the rock wallaby and the cockatoo. In addition to that, the plan is to raise the standard for how the animals are kept in the future and for the animal experiences by drawing the visitors even closer to the animals and the daily work of the zookeepers. If I understood an article correctly, Mary took over the patronage from PH who had taken it over from Frederik IX. Prince Vincent is not the shy type, so today, when he with his falconry gaze spotted the special panda-dressed zoo employee among the many spectators, he hurried over to him to give a huge hug." In the live feed on B.T. you could see Vincent with the Zoo representative talking and Vincent looked very curious about all the photos and the 3-D model of the garden.
