In connection with the Copenhagen Zoo's marking of H.R.H. The Crown Princess' 50th birthday, Her Royal Highness cuts the first sod to ”Marys Australske Have” - a park dedicated to Australian animals.

The facility is named after the Crown Princess: Mary's Australian Garden.

"On 2 February 2022, Copenhagen Zoo marks the 50th birthday of HRH The Crown Princess with a visit among the Zoo’s animals, birthday songs and, not least, groundbreaking for the new facility, “Mary’s Australian Garden”, which is being named after The Crown Princess.

Thanks to donations from the Augustinus Foundation and the Knud Højgaard Foundation, Her Royal Highness can turn the first spade of sod for the third and final part of the Zoo’s new facility for Australian animals: “Mary’s Australian Garden”.

The groundbreaking for “Mary’s Australian Garden” is, at the same time, the first step in the execution of the Zoo’s master plan, which will mean significant changes in the animals’ facilities in the coming years.

The facility will provide more space and well-being for current and new species such as the laughing kookaburra, the rock wallaby and the cockatoo. In addition to that, the plan is to raise the standard for how the animals are kept in the future and for the animal experiences by drawing the visitors even closer to the animals and the daily work of the zookeepers.

The Crown Princess is the patron of the Copenhagen Zoo."

This sounds like it is going to be a fun event!  If I understood an article correctly, Mary took over the patronage from PH who had taken it over from Frederik IX.

Wonder if we see a sighting of maybe at least the twins at this event unless they are in school during that time.

Not much of a live blog this time....Nothing happening for ages.

The link is live now with speeches going on. They already had a kids choir sing.  Poor Mary and the kids look like they are turning into popsicles.

This boy is so 😍

Vincent meeting an "old friend".

"Upon arrival at the Zoo, Prince Vincent spotted a zoo employee in a panda costume, and it made the joy of reunion bubble in him. A little over two and a half years ago, Vincent and Josephine were also on a trip to the zoo with their mother, Crown Princess Mary.

Prince Vincent is not the shy type, so today, when he with his falconry gaze spotted the special panda-dressed zoo employee among the many spectators, he hurried over to him to give a huge hug."

This is just the cutest!

I was hoping the twins would attend!

How nice to have a slice of Australia in Denmark

Wonderful photos and video from the Zoo today.  So glad the twins attended with Mary!  In the live feed on B.T. you could see Vincent with the Zoo representative talking and Vincent looked very curious about all the photos and the 3-D model of the garden.  And lovely each of the kids got to throw in a shovel of soil as well.
