Her Majesty The Queen pays an official visit to Brazil in October together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard to focus on Danish-Brazilian cooperation on biodiversity, health and the fight against violence against women.

Wednesday, 2 October

The first two days of the visit take place in Manaus.

 

Boat tour on the Amazon River
The Queen takes part in a boat tour on the Amazon River, where The Queen will, among other things, gain insight into the Amazon region’s challenges and possible solutions in relation to combatting environment-related crime.

 

Visit in the Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve and at Museu da Amazônia - MUSA
The Queen visits Museu da Amazônia (MUSA), located in a 100-hectare area of the Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve, which is an original dryland forest area of the Amazon Forest.

 

Official reception by the Governor of Amazonas and attendance at performance at Teatro Amazonas
The Queen is received by the Governor of the State of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, at Teatro Amazonas, which is a theatre and opera house in the centre of Manaus. 

Thursday 3 October

Visit at the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA)
The Queen visits the National Institute for Amazonian Research, which through the years has carried out scientific research on the physical environment and conditions of life in the Amazon region.

 

Visit at Centre for Bioeconomy in the Amazon Forest (CBA)
The Queen visits the Centre for Bioeconomy in the Amazon Forest (CBA), which was established in Manaus in 2002 and has the objective of promoting sustainable development in the Amazon region.

 

Luncheon with focus on food with products that indigenous people in the Amazon Forest eat in their everyday lives
The Queen takes part in a luncheon at a local restaurant that prepares food with sustainable use of produce harvested and grown by indigenous people. Moreover, the restaurant mainly employs indigenous people.

Friday 4 October 

The programme will take place in Brasília.

 

Participation in official meeting
The Queen, together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard, participates in an official meeting in Brazil’s capital.

 

Visit at public school
The Queen and Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard visit a public school in Brasília, where The Queen will be introduced to Brazil’s school meal programme, among other things.

 

Visit at the Brazilian agricultural research institute Embrapa Cerrados
The Queen, together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard, visits Embrapa Cerrados, which is the Brazilian agricultural research institute in the savannah area, the Cerrado, and has, among other things, focus on challenges and opportunities in relation to agriculture’s impact on biodiversity and environment in Brazil.

 

Working dinner with UNFPA focused on equality
In her role as patron of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), The Queen participates together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard in a working dinner at the Danish Embassy in Brasília.

Saturday 5 October

Visit at Brasilia’s botanical garden with UNEP
In her role as patron of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), The Queen, together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard, visits Brasília’s botanical garden, which is an area for nature conservation.
