H.M. The Queen celebrates 40-year jubilee as Denmark's monarch on 14 January 2012.
By Frederik IX's death on 14 January 1972 the throne passed to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II. The throne change was announced on 15 January 1972 from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace by Prime Minister Jens Otto Krag.
