HRH The Crown Princess speaks at the opening of the conference 'World Conference of Women's Shelters' on 27 February 2012 in Washington, USA. Following this the Crown Princess participates in the conference, which lasts four days and aims to focus on women living with domestic violence worldwide.
Crown Princess visits the conference in her capacity as chairman of the Mary Foundation and will talk about the Foundation's work to combat domestic violence in Denmark.
The visit
Crown Princess begins her visit to Washington to attend the presentation of a donation from the Danish Government in excess of US$2.3 million to the Inter-American Development Bank, which is the largest international development institution in Latin America. After visiting a women's shelter, the Crown Princess speaks at the opening of the World Conference of Women's Shelters and participates in workshops at the conference.
World Conference of Women's Shelters
2nd World Conference of Women's Shelters brings international focus to domestic violence. The conference provides a framework for a wide range of workshops, where those working to combat this set of issues internationally can share experiences and develop new ideas.
Crown Princess Mary is also patron of LOKK- Denmark's national organization of women's crisis centres.
