THE CROWN PRINCESS BECOMES PATRON OF TWIN REGISTRIES

HRH The Crown Princess has agreed to become the patron of two twin registries: the “Australian Twin Registry” and the “Danish Twin Registry”, which is a research unit of the University of Southern Denmark.

The two registries conduct research about twins in Denmark and in Australia to examine what influence heredity and environment have on our lives and health. Both the Danish and the Australian registries are used as resources in connection with, in particular, scientific research into things such as health, diseases, longevity and aging.

The Australian Twin Registry was established in 1981 and has data from approximately 66,000 twins. The Danish Twin Registry, with its nearly 60 years of research, is the world’s oldest national twin registry. The registry contains data from more than 170.000 twins and includes nearly all twins born in Denmark since 1870.

The Crown Princess’s first official participation as patron of the twin registries takes place on 15 January 2013 at a seminar at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense arranged by the two twin registries. There, The Crown Princess and 150 invited pairs of twins from Funen will hear about selected research findings.
