The objective of the new center is to build up an interdisciplinary knowledge environment focused on finding new solutions for current societal challenges, with the human being at the center. Her Royal Highness will – in addition to having the center named after her – be part of the center’s “Advisory Committee”, which has a consultative function in relation to the center’s task solutions. In connection with the announcement about the center’s opening, The Crown Princess says, “Denmark has a strong tradition for creating change through broad partnerships. And, here, research is an important player. With the new center, I hope that we can make the insights and methods of the researchers available for decision-makers and contribute knowledge that inspires innovative solutions to the benefit of us humans and our society.” The center has been established by the Humanities, Social Sciences, Theology and Law faculties of the University of Copenhagen with a supplementary grant from Realdania. The Crown Princess Mary Center will be formally opened by The Crown Princess on 2 February 2022 at an arrangement at the University of Copenhagen’s South Campus. Izzieq
News about the Crown Princess Mary Center at the University of Copenhagen (should a thread be started under the Foundations section?) Back on May 5, 2022 it was announced that the Crown Princess Mary Center has chosen to support two research projects related to the war in Ukraine. The projects, both of which focus on refugees, have each received DKK 50,000 in immediate funding. Here is the link to the article New center helps Ukraine projects with immediate funding – University of Copenhagen (ku.dk) June 27, 2022 - Announcement of 5 new projects the Crown Princess Center is supporting New seeds are sown: Marycenteret supports five projects New seeds have been sown: Marycenteret supports five projects – University of Copenhagen (ku.dk) START FUNDS THE Crown Princess Mary Center has identified a handful of new research projects that are supported with 'start-up funds'. Interactive maps 'Interactive narratives from a changing landscape' is the title of the first of the five supported projects. The project aims to prepare an interactive map that can be used by municipalities and agencies in the co-creation of the multifunctional landscape. "In light of the global climate and biodiversity crisis, multifunctional land distribution is a way to address the many different wishes for the use and design of the landscape. In the Danish Agricultural Agency's pilot scheme, emphasis is placed on local anchoring, but no further guidelines are set out for landowner and citizen involvement. The map will contribute to this," says Stine Krøijer, associate professor at the Department of Anthropology, who leads the research team. Researchers from HUM and SCIENCE are also participating in the project. Body cameras Do body-borne cameras on employees with regular customer interaction reduce the risk of being victimized? Lasse Suonperä Liebst, associate professor at the Department of Sociology, and his research colleagues ask this question. Specifically, the project will test the effects of body-borne cameras on ticket inspectors at the transport company Arriva. "Our experiment will investigate the effect of body-borne cameras in workplaces where employees are at risk of being exposed to unpleasantness. This is a major concern among employers and employees all over the world," says Lasse Suonperä Liebst. The study is carried out in collaboration with researchers at JUR. Religious councils A third research project examines faith communities that advise and judge in a wide range of religious, family and social law conflicts. "They play a key role in issues of socialization and discipline, of the rule of law, mediation and legal integration of religion. It also follows that religious legal concepts constitute an overlooked factor in everyday life, in professional discretion, and in administration, administration, legislation and jurisprudence," says Brian Arly Jacobsen, Associate Professor at the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies. Researchers from TEO, JUR and SAMF are also participating. Digital devices A study on the use of digital devices in education is also supported. "At university and upper secondary level, students' devices constitute an often unregulated and constant didactic partner who can both support and challenge the teaching space. There is a lack of knowledge about how the use of e.g. computer and mobile with internet access affects the learning situation and our goal is to investigate the learning and well-being potential in strategic regulation of the use of such devices," explains Johanna Falby Lindell, tenure track assistant professor at the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics. In addition to researchers from Language Psychology, the project also includes researchers from SCIENCE and SAMF. Heritage Finally, the Crown Princess Mary Center is supporting a study on building researcher-practitioner partnerships to protect cultural property during conflicts. "The implementation of the obligations under international law to protect cultural property in connection with armed conflicts is lagging behind in most countries – including in Denmark. And there is a lack of understanding of both the political and military-strategic roles of cultural property in armed conflicts and the role of civil preparedness," Tea Sindbæk Andersen highlights. She is an associate professor at the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies and leads the project together with co-director Frederik Rosén, who is an adjunct associate professor at the same department. mls
9. March 2023 The Crown Princess Mary Center at the University of Copenhagen was in focus, when the US Ambassador in Denmark, His Excellency Alan Leventhal, the other day invited Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess to a discussion in the ambassador's residence Rydhave. Also present at the meeting was the guest of honour Dr. Rafael Reif, who has previously been the rector of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as representatives from the university and fund world and the center leader of the Crown Princess Mary Center, Simon Kjær Hansen. At the discussion, there was a common interest to create a good framework for innovative research and cross-institutional cooperation as well as to suggest common solutions to social problems, which is also a central objective of the Crown Princess Mary Center. Izzieq
She looks fabulous! Glad they posted about this unannounced engagement with photos and video. Something as simple as that documents the visit/engagement. I hope that we start hearing more via the DRF about what this center (and the King's Center at Aarhus University) do throughout the year.
