Frederik and Mary visited Roskilde Domkirke in the afternoon of 4th March (or 5th ? The instagram post is dated 5 March but it was posted just a few minutes ago today. So perhaps the given date refers to the day the visit actually happened).

It was a bit like getting close to the past when we visited Roskilde Cathedral yesterday afternoon. The impressive cathedral contains a royal time journey of over 500 years. From the beautiful Epiphany Chapel with impressive tombstones for Christian III and Frederik II, over Christian IV's magnificent burial chapel and relatively modest coffin to the Glücksburgernes Chapel, where Christian IX and also Frederik VIII and Christian X and their queens are buried . The visit was made no less lively by the fact that we again had Thomas Thulstrup, who is the museum director of Kongernes Samling, with us as a dedicated tour guide. Our history and culture are an important part of who we are. We can read about it and read up on it, but it is still something very special to walk around it, as we did yesterday afternoon in the cathedral.

Fantastic church!

I don't mean to be morbid  but could this visit also have been to chose their future burial place?

As the current King and Queen, those types of plans have to be made years in advance.

I always picture Frederik and his consort being buried in the same location as his grandfather and grandmother....outside of the church.

That is a possibility, yes. The plans for QM&PH's burial (which PH) then changed were made ages ago.

"In connection with a private tour of The National Historical Museum at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød for His Majesty The King, His Royal Highness The Crown Prince and Her Majesty Queen Margrethe earlier today, the Crown Prince's elephant Knight Shield was hung in the Knight Chapel in the Castle Church🛡️🇩🇰
The elephant knight shield, as king. weapon painter Ronny Skov Andersen is behind, is done in continuation of the fact that the Crown Prince - then Prince Christian - on his 18th birthday (15th). October last year) was awarded the Elephant Order by her grandmother, Queen Margrethe.
The shield reflects the Crown Prince's coat of arms and title at the time last autumn, when the shield was completed. It is a tradition for elephant knight shields that they are not changed, even if the knight in question later changes title or weapon.
As a Danish prince, the Crown Prince carries the royal Danish coat of arms, last established by Queen Margrethe after ascension to the throne in 1972.
The shield is divided into four fields of the Dannebrogcross. 1. and 4. field is the weapon of Denmark's empire, i
a golden field the three crowned blue lions surrounded by nine red hearts. It's been known from the end of the 1100s and has been Denmark's coat of arms ever since. And 2. field is seen Southern Jutland's two blue lions in a field of gold. The 3. Field is divided into three more fields, all blue. Here you can see three crowns of gold, which is actually Sweden's national coat of arms, but which in the royal Danish coat of arms stands as a memorial to the union of the three Nordic kingdoms. At the same time, a silver ram is seen, which is the weapon of the Faroe Islands and dates back to the 13th century. Finally, a silver bear is seen, which has been Greenland's coat of arms since the 1660s. In the middle of the heart shield, the two red Oldenborg bars, the dynastic weapons of the royal family, are seen in a gold field.
The shield is held by two savages known as the shield holders of Christian 1. s time. And the shield is surrounded by a hermeline forearm cloak.
As something special, the Crown Prince's coat of arms is crowned by the special prince's crown, which, along with other rank crowns, was introduced by Christian 5. and 1693. Unlike the royal crown, the prince's crown only has three visible brackets and a pearl on top. Together with the Latin title in the inscription "PRINCEPS DANIAE", the prince crown reflects the Crown Prince's status as Prince of Denmark at the time of the completion of the shield."

Why does Federik stand like that? :no2:

Rhetorical question of course..he has always stood like that.

But now as a king, it looks undignified. He should really make more of an effort, especially in historical photos such as these.
